A brand new farm has been built in Ohio with 3 cage-free laying houses under one roof. All barn processes are controlled by the touchscreen Fortica® poultry automation system. This user-friendly system ensures that all processes in the barn are controlled perfectly to provide the animals with a pleasant living environment and to stimulate optimal egg production.
Automating cage-free poultry houses is completely different to automating cage and colony housing barns. That is why the innovative Fortica® system has special software to control and monitor these cage-free houses. In particular, ventilation, nest control and egg counting require a different approach in cage-free housing.
The ventilation system is equipped with Flash air intake valves on both side walls. The special fins on the air intakes direct the air over the aviary systems to the middle of the barn. This prevents cold air blowing directly onto the animals. The Fortica® system has the right settings to optimize the air distribution in the barn as well as possible and can also easily switch to tunnel ventilation.
Fortica® ensures that the ventilation, heating and cooling in the barn are attuned properly. This is based on temperature, relative humidity and negative pressure in the barn. The age and weight of the animals are also taken into account. This ensures a comfortable and consistent living environment for the laying hens, better egg production, good animal health, plus a pleasant working environment.
In addition to climate, the Fortica® system also controls and monitors other aspects in the barn such as feed, water, lighting and animal weighing. The barn is equipped with Hotraco animal scales to enable the Fortica® system to determine the average weight of the hens. This valuable management data can in turn be used to create the optimal climate in the barn.
